Greg Stoks has been involved in the water entertainment industry since 1983 when he joined his father’s residential and commercial swimming pool business. In 1997, Commercial Aquatic Engineering (CAE) was formed with Greg as principal of the company. The company rapidly developed a reputation for being able to provide everything from design consultation to complete construction and maintenance services. During that time, CAE was asked by Rainforest Café’s management to help simplify and redesign their signature water features to improve reliability, reduce installation complexity, and improve system maintenance. Under Greg’s leadership, CAE responded with the development of UL listed, prefabricated mechanical operating systems and highly innovative prefabricated fountain structures. These new systems dramatically reduced field installation time and space requirements, improved reliability and were significantly easier to maintain than the original designs.
Greg purchased CAE in 2000 with the vision that this new prefabricated approach would streamline the water feature development process, allowing the company to provide competitively priced fountains throughout the United States. It quickly became apparent that one of the limiting factors in water feature growth was the complexity involved in specifying and budgeting for water features. In response, Greg developed a concept validation and budgeting process to assist architects with initial water feature concepts, concept support documentation, functionality and performance reviews, and budgeting analysis. CAE continues to provide this service to architects on a complimentary basis.
In 2002, Greg founded Aquatic Recreation Company, LLC (ARC). He leveraged his fifteen years of experience in the aquatic industry and incorporated elements from CAE’s water manipulation technologies and their new prefabricated mechanical system capabilities to create ARC, which now offers over 200 water play attractions, splash pad, and interactive water features, which are unique to the industry.
Greg has also been developing a line of pre-designed water feature packages that allow design teams to incorporate an architectural water feature easily into a project at cost-effective pricing. In 2013, a new division was launched called Innovative Fountain Solutions, IFS, which has cataloged numerous pre-designed fountains that architecturally meet the needs of typical indoor and outdoor spaces. Fountain components such as pool shapes, sizes, and profiles can be mixed and matched with various water effects and elements to make a one-of-a-kind fountain. IFS fountain packages have been designed for streamlined manufacturing with computer-aided technologies that provide a high quality prefabricated fountain that is easy to install and care for at affordable costs.
Greg has a long history as a pioneer and innovator in the water entertainment industry and has been a featured speaker at many national conferences. He has been involved in over 1000 fountain and water feature design projects throughout the world, developing a true core competency in water feature design and construction.
Wanting to provide growth and new opportunities to his staff and clients, CAE & ARC were acquired by Landscape Structures in the Fall of 2015. Water and splash play is a key part of the recreational play experience and by acquiring ARC and CAE, Landscape Structures can more effectively meet customer needs with a one-stop solution.
